The Washington Capitals announced on Thursday afternoon that they had signed Minnesota-Duluth junior forward Caleb Herbert to a two-year entry level contract. Herbert was a fifth round draft choice of the Capitals in the 2010 Entry Draft out of Bloomington Jefferson high school in Minnesota.
Herbert finished the season as Minnesota-Duluth's leading scorer with 12 goals and 19 assists for 31 points in 36 games this season, improving on a 6-19-25 scoring line was his junior season. He finished his college career with 89 points in 112 games played.
Herbert is a natural scorer with some electrifying offensive abilities, but struggled with consistency throughout his college career. He will be assigned to Washington's AHL affiliate in Hershey, PA.
