BOSTON -- Northeastern and Harvard square off in the first semifinal of the 62nd annual Beanpot from the TD Garden on Monday at 5 p.m. The game can be seen around New England and across the world on New England Sports Network (NESN).
The Huskies have not won a Beanpot since 1988 while Harvard's last 'Pot came in 1993. The two teams play for a right to end that misery next Monday against the winner of tonight's second semifinal between Boston College and Boston University.
Clay Witt, owner of the top save percentage in college hockey, will start in goal for Jim Madigan's Northeastern club while Ted Donato will counter with Raphael Girard for the Crimson.
Harvard leads the all-time series with a mark of 65-34-0. The Crimson are 12-8 against the Huskies in Beanpot semifinals. Northeastern won the last matchup of the two teams at Harvard's Bright Arena on December 29, 2012 by a score of 5-1. Harvard won the last contest between the two schools in the Beanpot, edging NU, 3-2, in the 2012 Beanpot Consolation Game.
