Minneapolis - The NCHC announced today that the league's regular season champion will receive the Julie and Spencer Penrose Memorial Cup. This announcement came following the naming of the coach of the year award; the Herb Brooks Coach of the Year.
Media Day Notes
To kick off the morning events, the NCHC Preseason Poll was announced, which stirred up mixed emotions, but for the most part everyone did remember it is just a preseason poll.
Miami, North Dakota, and St. Cloud were the only teams to grab first-place votes, but it was Miami who came out on top. Pretty agreeable positioning, as far as the rest go. Being arguably the toughest conference in college hockey, it'll be interesting to see how each team is able to finish up.
The Julie and Spencer Penrose Memorial Cup was introduced after the NCHC announced that all NCHC championship ticket buyers will have an opportunity to purchase 2015 tickets at a "locked-in" price.
Lastly, the coach of the year award was named after the great Herb Brooks. Brooks's son, Danny, was in attendance during the announcements as well.
