The Fenway Sports Management and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will officially welcome back Hockey East to Fenway Park on Friday. There will be a press conference in the afternoon to discuss the 2014 Citi Frozen Fenway followed by a pregame ceremony before tonight's Boston Red Sox game against the Chicago White Sox.
Notre Dame hockey senior captain Jeff Costello will throw out the game's first pitch. The Fighting Irish are joining Hockey East for the 2013-14 season. Jeff Jackson's Notre Dame squad will faceoff against Boston College in the marquee matchup of the event on Saturday, January 4. Merrimack and Providence is the first game of the event, immediately preceding the ND-BC clash.
A week later UMass-Lowell and Northeastern will square off in the first game followed by one of the league's oldest rivalries in Maine and Boston University. This will mark the third year that Hockey East has skated on Boston's loved ballpark.
Editor's Note: SBNation's Jeff Cox will be at Fenway Park for the press conference and will have more on this story later in the day.
