The Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL have signed one of the top 96's in New England.

Former UMass-Amherst recruit Willy Smith has signed with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The East Long Meadow, Mass. native was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 QMJHL Draft.

Smith's father was drafted in the second round of the 1982 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders. The younger Smith played for the Springfield Pics in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) this past season. By signing with the Wildcats, Smith is giving up any chance of playing college hockey.
