Nebraska-Omaha has added a commitment from '92-born goalie Kirk Thompson, who has played the past three seasons with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL. Thompson tweeted this message out on June 11th:
Well that just goes to show how you never know what life has in store for you. Very excited to become a UNO Maverick today!

Thompson had originally committed to American International earlier this year, but re-opened his recruiting after a strong finish to his junior career.
Thompson's addition to the UNO roster reportedly signals the end of junior-to-be goalie Dayn Belfour's time in Omaha. Belfour, the son of Hall of Fame goalie Eddie Belfour, came to UNO as a third-string walk-on, but eventually earned playing time, including being UNO's starting goalie for a stint at the end of last season. But playing goalie under Dean Blais is always a tenuous position, and the Mavericks appear to be headed in a different direction next season.
Thompson will join fellow freshman Reed Peters, and returning junior Ryan Massa in the competition to man the nets for Nebraska-Omaha next year.
