Former UMass-Amherst goaltender Kevin Boyle will be switching the name on the front of his jersey - kinda. The Manalapan, NJ native will be transferring to UMass-Lowell after being cut by Minutemen head coach John Micheletto.
Boyle played in 41 games over two seasons for UMass-Amherst with a 2.86 goals against average and a .896 save percentage. Boyle looked terrific at times especially early in his sophomore year, but had some rough outings towards the end of the season.
Boyle will have to sit out the 2013-14 season before being eligible to play for the River Hawks. UMass-Lowell will have sophomore Connor Hellebuyck and senior Doug Carr to roam the crease this season. It is possible neither will be back for the following season when Boyle becomes eligible. Hellebuyck, a Winnipeg draft pick, took the conference by storm during the second semester and could be a flight risk.
