Anaheim Ducks Sign Boston College Senior Steven Whitney

Whitney joins the Ducks after an impressive college career.

TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting via Twitter that the Anaheim Ducks have signed Boston College outgoing senior Steven Whitney to a free agent pro contract.

The diminutive Whitney--listed at just 5-7 162 lbs.--didn't get quite the attention as linemate Johnny Gaudreau, but he was just as exciting an offensive threat for the Eagles. He scored 26 goals--second best in the nation--and 19 assists for the Eagles this year, trailing just Gaudreau for the Eagles team lead. He finished his college career with 128 total points, and won two national championships with the Eagles.

It may be difficult for Whitney to excel at the last year, but there is at least some precedent, with one of Whitney's former Boston College teammates, similarly-sized Cam Atkinson, becoming a regular in the Columbus Blue Jackets lineup this year. Whitney will likely begin his pro career at the AHL level.
