Quinnipiac senior defenseman Mike Dalhuisen has signed a contract with the New York Islanders' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport. Details of the contract were not announce.
Dalhuisen is a big, tough defenseman, listed at 6'3" 215 lbs., that was one of the leaders of a very good Quinnipiac defense this year. He scored 8 goals and 8 assists for the Bobcats this season. It's a very nice depth signing for the Islanders, and Dalhuisen has the potential to develop into a quietly effective player at the NHL level.
Dalhuisen is also a native of Nymegen, Holland, making him somewhat of a rarity in professional hockey. Hockey-Reference.com lists former Atlanta Flames/St. Louis Blues defenseman Ed Kea has the only native of the Netherlands to play in the National Hockey League.
