Western Michigan junior defenseman Danny DeKeyser has signed an entry level contract with the Detroit Red Wings. The Clay Township, Mich. native was one of the most highly sought after NCAA free agents.
The former Sioux City Musketeers hulking defenseman who had numerous offers from NHL teams. DeKeyser could step right into the Red Wings lineup, but there is the possibility he reports to Grand Rapids (AHL) initially. He was a captain of the Broncos this season as a junior. He tallied two goals and 13 assists this year. He had 12 goals and 37 assists on his career. He was durable playing in 118 games for the Broncos over his three seasons.
The Broncos season ended with an upset loss in the CCHA Quarterfinals. Andy Murray's team was on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament, but fell short of earning an at-large bid.
