Rumors began circulating Monday evening that Minnesota-Duluth sophomore defenseman Chris Casto would be leaving school to sign an NHL contract. Casto confirmed those rumors by tweeting this goodbye on Monday evening:
I would like to thank my teammates, the Bulldogs organization, and Duluth for my time here. It has truly been an honor to be a Bulldog.
— Chris Casto (@FidelCrusto) March 26, 2013
It is expected that Casto will be signing with the Boston Bruins.
Casto was one of our top free agent prospects in the WCHA/CCHA this year. Personally, I've always been a big fan of Casto's game, dating back to his day at Hill-Murray School, and though he was passed over in his draft year, he was a player that I would have drafted. It wasn't the strongest year for himself, or his team, but his talent, size, and potential is obvious, and it was a smart move by the Bruins to get him under contract. He'll likely begin his career in the AHL with the Providence Bruins.
