Maine senior forward Joey Diamond has signed an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The Long Beach, NY native led the Black Bears in goal scoring the past two seasons. Diamond finished his Maine career with 59 goals and 45 assists for 104 points. The always feisty Diamond racked up 467 penalty minutes.

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are the American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Islanders, his hometown team. Diamond grew up on Long Island where the Islanders play their home games. The area was hit hard this fall by Hurricane Sandy.

Some of his penalties were certainly deserved, but many of them were only called based upon his reputation. Hopefully a clean slate in the pro ranks will give Diamond a chance to show his true ability again. He will work hard in the corners and battle for goals in those tough areas out front.
