Gophers Hockey: Sam Warning channels Pavel Datsyuk with this highlight reel goal (VIDEO)

Minnesota sophomore Sam Warning scored a highlight-reel goal that ended up being the #1 play on Sportscenter Friday night.

University of Minnesota forward Sam Warning may not have the stickhandling reputation of Pavel Datysuk but he does have a nice consolation: the #1 play of the Sportscenter Top Ten Friday night.

The sophomore forward scored his 7th goal of the season in highlight-reel fashion reminiscent of Datsyuk during the Gophers' 5-3 win over Minnesota-Duluth. After dangling Andy Welinski (Anaheim Ducks) and leaving him out to dry, Warning then skated across the slot while moving the puck to his backhand and beat Bulldogs goaltender Matt McNeely with 5:08 left in the second period.

The goal gave Minnesota a 3-2 lead and led the Top 10 during the 11 p.m. and 12 a.m. ET Sportscenter editions.

For his part Warning was quick to give credit to teammate Christian Isackson, who is no stranger himself to the flagship ESPN program.

"I meet him after practice and just work on some moves that we would see Datsyuk do," Warning said about taking inspiration from the Detroit Red Wings all-star.

And with a goal like that, it isn't hard to believe there will be kids trying to work on a move they just saw Sam Warning do.
