Beanpot 2013: Eagles explode for four goals, up 4-1 after 2

Four goals in the final 9:03 of the period gave BC a commanding 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

After a scoreless first 30 minutes, the last ten minutes of the second period provided plenty of excitement. Thanks to four goals in the final 9:07 of the period, Boston College leads Northeastern 4-1 after two.

The Eagles hit two posts in the first half of the second period before finally exploding for two goals in a span of 1:15 to go ahead 2-0.

Bill Arnold blasted a shot into the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 10:53 mark of the 2nd period. Kevin Hayes came into the zone and patiently waited, drawing NU goalie Chris Rawlings and the defense's attention before passing the puck over to the waiting Arnold.

Shortly thereafter, BC extended its lead when star sophomore Johnny Gaudreau found an opening and jammed one into the back of the net off a broken play. It was Gaudreau's 14th of the season.

Northeastern would answer back at 15:04 of the period when freshman Kevin Roy scored on a nice shot where he used the defenseman as a screen. Vinny Saponari and Dax Lauwers were credited with the assists. Roy who now has 16 goals on his rookie season has scored each NU goal of the tournament.

Roy had a great chance just over a minute later when he had a breakaway, but his backhand effort was gloved by BC senior goaltender Parker Milner.

Just after NU had a few more quality chances, the Eagles regained the two goal lead when Patrick Brown tipped in an Isaac McLeod shot from the point. Quinn Smith continued his good play in the tournament with the secondary assist.

The Eagles would go up by three when Steven Whitney found the puck to the right of Rawlings after a juicy rebound. The senior from Reading, MA would deposit it into the cage for his 18th goal of the season.
