Goalies Lukas Hafner of Western Michigan and Pheonix Copley of Michigan Tech stole the show in the Great Lakes Invitational final with neither goalie allowing a goal through sixty minutes of regulation play. But in overtime, Western Michigan's Justin Kovacs was able to knock in a rebound off a Kenney Morrison shot that hit the back boards and bounced to the front of the net to give Western Michigan a 1-0 win and give Western Michigan their second ever Great Lakes Invitational victory.
Hafner made 33 saves for the Broncos and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Copley was the tough-luck loser, making 30 stops in the loss.
In this afternoon's consolation game, Michigan State took home third place honors with a 3-0 win over Michigan. Thoams Ebbing scored 1:23 into the game in what would hold up as the game-winner. Matt Berry and Brent Darnell added insurance goals in the third period.
