Wednesday's non-conference game between Michigan and Ferris State featured several highlights across the two top-5 teams. Wolverines freshman goalie Zach Nagelvoort kept his team in the game with 13 of his 29 saves coming in the first period. Brothers C.J. Motte, goalie for the Bulldogs, and Michigan forward Tyler Motte battled against one another. Ferris State defenseman Brandon Anselmini tied the game at 2 with 5:44 remaining in regulation when he beat Nagelvoort on a wrist shot.
And then there was this.
Michigan freshman forward Alex Kile raised the bar on shootout goals this season with his seventh-round shootout winner. The Troy, Michigan native beat Motte, who had previously turned away his brother, by going around with his back hand after a deke that channeled Pavel Datsyuk.
While referees reviewed Kile's shot to make sure it crossed the line, the shootout goal was upheld.
The game between #4 Ferris State and #5 Michigan officially ended in a 2-2 tie, but Kile's goal was the best highlight that didn't make a difference in the final score, which is saying something for a game that played the same Zac Brown Band commercial 18 times. Yes I counted.
