Boston, Mass. -- It isn't an easy task to find the back of the net against Providence goaltender Jon Gillies. It's even more difficult when spotting the Friars a three-goal lead. Friday night at Agganis Arena Boston University rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Providence, 4-3.
Sophomore Danny O'Regan scored twice and fellow classmate Matt Lane tallied a goal and added a helper as Boston University snapped a two-game losing streak. After giving up three goals on 16 shots in the first period, BU sophomore goaltender stopped the last 18 shots he faced for his third win of the season.
Providence was led offensively by junior Ross Mauermann who had a goal and an assist. Gillies who has been battling an injury since the second week of the season uncharacteristically let in four goals while making 21 saves.
BU improves to 4-3-0 while Providence falls from the ranks of the unbeaten, and now stands at 4-1-1. The same two teams do battle tomorrow night at 8 p.m. at Schneider Arena on the campus of Providence College. It will be a homecoming of sorts for first year BU head coach David Quinn, a Cranston, Rhode Island native.
