Michigan sophomore forward Andrew Coop is the first-ever player to be named the Big Ten hockey first star.

Copp, a Winnipeg Jets draft pick, scored five points (2 G - 3 A) for the Wolverines in wins over then-#4 Boston College and RPI. He was honored for that performance with the First Star for the week of October 7-13 by the conference Tuesday morning. That includes a career-high 3 points in the 3-1 win in over the Eagles, which helped Michigan jump in the polls this week from 11 to #5.

He is joined by Minnesota linemates Sam Warning and Kyle Rau (Florida Panthers) as the second and third stars, respectively. Warning, a junior forward from Chersterfield, Missouri, was named the Tournament MVP of the season-opening Ice Breaker after scoring 4 points (2 G - 2 A) in wins over Mercyhurst and New Hampshire.

Rau, a junior from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, also scored four points  (1 G - 3 A)  in the two wins for the now-#3 Gophers. That includes his 25th multi-point game against Mercyhurst where Rau scored three points against the Lakers.

The Big Ten began sponsoring hockey in 2013-14. In lieu of naming a player of the week, the conference is instead naming three stars.

Michigan travels to New Hampshire this weekend to take on the Wildcats. Minnesota is on the road  this weekend for an in-state showdown with former WCHA foe Bemidji State.
