Colgate's Spiro Goulakos Leaves Team for Cancer Treatment

Colgate's Spiro Goulakos was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Colgate University announced today that sophomore defenseman Spiro Goulakos would be leaving the team to return to his native Montreal to undergo chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. The school's release of the announcement is here.

The 6'2" 185 lbs. defenseman had scored six goals and nine assists through 21 games for the Raiders, and had started drawing attention as a potential NHL free agent target. While aggressive chemotherapy is not something to be taken lightly, the good news is that survival rates for Hodgkin's lymphoma are quite good, and the university expects Goulakos to be back at school on a full academic and athletic schedule by the beginning of next fall.
