Hockey East has suspended Boston University defenseman Garrett Noonan an additional game for his spearing penalty in the third period of Saturday's 4-3 home loss to UMass-Lowell.
Noonan was assessed a five minute major and game disqualification for spearing by the game officials. A disqualification penalty carries with it an automatic one game suspension. Today in a press release by the league, Coordinator of Officials Dan Schachte announced the supplemental discipline. He will be eligible to return after sitting out both games this weekend.
Noonan, a junior from Norfolk, MA and Nashville Predators draft pick, is a key part of the BU defense. He has taken on more of a leadership role with the team this season. Back in December, Parker gave Noonan an "A" on his sweater.
The Terriers will face Providence in a home-and-home this weekend. The two teams enter the weekend series in a tie for third place.
