Michigan team officials announced earlier this afternoon that freshman forward Daniel Milne had left the University of Michigan hockey program. Later in the afternoon, the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League sent out a release announcing that they had signed Milne.
Milne had skated in just seven games for the struggling Wolverines this season, and had not registered a point on the season. Michigan head coach Red Berenson said via a statement released to the media that Milne--reputedly an excellent student--was leaving Michigan in good academic standing. Playing with the Attack should give him the opportunity to see more ice time.
Milne's departure doesn't necessarily hurt Michigan much in the short run, given that he'd only played in one game since the start of December, and more candidly, because Michigan's season is pretty much already over. But depth is starting to become a bit of a concern for the Wolverines at forward, especially with forward Jeff Rohrkemper moving back to defense to fill in for some injured defensemen. That leaves Michigan with just 13 forwards available.
