Dakota Mermis Leaving Denver for OHL

Mermis will join the streaking London Knights

Bruce Bennett

The London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League have called a press conference today to announce that Dakota Mermis, a freshman defenseman for the Denver Pioneers, will be signing with the Knights.

Mermis had played in all 19 of Denver's games this year and had registered a goal and three assists. His older brother Jarrod is a junior forward for the Pioneers. Mermis was a highly sought-after recruit when he committed to Denver out of the NTDP program, though his development tapered a bit, and he ended up going undrafted in the NHL draft last year.

London has dominated the OHL so far this season and is currently in the midst of a 23-game winning streak. They're pretty loaded on the back line with top NHL picks Scott Harrington and Olli Maatta, and a future first round draft pick in Nikita Zadorov, but they aren't particularly deep on the blue line, and adding Mermis will certainly help that.
