Notre Dame Adds A Goalie

Notre Dame picked up a goal tending commitment for next season.

Notre Dame added their goalie for the future last night when they picked up a verbal commitment from Penticton(BCHL) '93 goalie Chad Katunar.

The first thing that stands out about Katunar, quite literally, is that he is 6'4", and listed at 212 lbs, he's not particularly slight. Last season, he was mostly the back-up goalie on the ultra-loaded Penticton Vees team that won Canada's RBC Cup, though a late season injury thrust him into the starting role, where he performed quite well. So far this season, Penticton appears to be nearly as loaded in terms of talent, and Katunar is posting impressive numbers as the team's starting goalie(5-0-0 1.72, .943).

Notre Dame was a team in need of a goalie, as well. Back-up goalie Mike Johnson is a senior, while starter Steve Summerhays is a junior. With no other goalies currently committed to Notre Dame, it appears as though Katunar could compete for playing time with Summerhays for one season, before having the opportunity to be the number one goalie the following year.
