Chicago Steel forward/defenseman Johnny Wingels has committed to play college hockey at Miami. The Chicago Steel describe him as, ""...a strong and aggressive two-way defenseman. He is a hybrid player that can have success on either the wing or on defense"
Wingels older borther Tommy was a star forward at Miami, scoring 99 points through three seasons with the RedHawks, prior to signing an NHL contract with the San Jose Sharks. Two of Wingels older sisters also attended Miami, so it almost seemed a matter of when Wingels would commit to Miami, not if.
Wingels is a '94 born player, which gives Miami the flexibility to bring him in next season, or the following season. He's currently starting his first full season with the Steel in the USHL. He scored one goal and one assist through five preseason games for the Steel. He joins NTDP defensemen Trevor Hamilton, Louis Belpedio, and BCHL defenseman Matt Joyaux as defensemen committed to Miami.
