TSN's Bob McKenzie reported today that Wisconsin's Justin Schultz officially filed paperwork to leave Wisconsin. Leaving Wisconsin is the first step in Schultz filing for free agency, which seemed to be a given after he didn't sign with Anaheim prior to the end of the season. Anaheim still has 30 days to exclusively talk to Schultz. Once that 30 days expires, Schultz can talk with any team, and then sign with any team as an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

This article in the New Hampshire Union Leader about Connecticut's move to be the 10th team in Hockey East drops the interesting tidbit that Hockey East's first choice to be that 10th team was Miami of Ohio. If that seems geographically ridiculous, keep in mind Oxford to Boston is just a shade under 900 miles, and with Miami's new conference set-up, Western Michigan is obviously closer, but Omaha, St. Cloud, and Duluth are only fractionally closer, while the other three teams in the league are much longer travels.
