Fighting to Save Alabama-Huntsville Hockey

Most people are familiar with the troubles and tribulations for the Alabama-Huntsville hockey program as they float around as an independent program without any conference affiliation. But the UAH program appears to be facing an even more pressing danger domestically.

University of Alabama system Chancellor Malcolm Portera is currently baby-sitting UAH in an interim president's role, and has fingered the UAH hockey program as a financial black hole and while no official statements have been made, strong rumors are that UAH could be relegated back to a club hockey program.

Mark McCarter of the Huntsville Times wrote a very good open letter to Portera, outlining reasons for keeping the program. An online petition is also going around for college hockey fans that want to do whatever they can to help.
