Big disappointment in Belarus today, as the US U-18 team dropped their opening game of the tournament to Sweden by a score of 4-2.
The US took a 2-1 lead into the third period thanks to goals from Chase Balisy and Brandon Saad, but gave up back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart in the third period to give up the lead. The Swedes added an empty net goal with 19 seconds left to seal the win.
It is the US's first ever loss to Sweden in this tournament. Canada was also upset earlier today by Switzerland by a score of 3-1. The US team will take on Switzerland tomorrow, in what is pretty much a must-win game. A loss tomorrow and they'll likely have the task of having to beat Canada on April 17 to avoid missing out on the medal round.
