This Christmas video made by the Belfast Giants is making the viral rounds. There's a lot of former college players you've probably forgot about on the Giants roster, including former Gopher Dan Welch, who gets a nice solo in the video.
The New York Times' hockey blog picked up a nice story on the impact of the NTDP for USA Hockey. It makes a lot of the same points that have been made here many times before, but still an interesting read.
Good friend of the blog and former NTDP communications coordinator Chris Peters has started his own blog, that has some absolutely great stuff on the potential US World Junior roster.
Guinness' count of the Big Chill game attendance is an ongoing saga. Guinness posted today that the 85,000 number initially announced was how many scanned and counted tickets there were at the time Michigan announced their number, and that those numbers are still increasing. In any case, Guinness actually provides perhaps the best evidence against their number with a nice panning of the stadium at the beginning of the game. There's a few gaps in the upper reaches of the north end zone, but otherwise, it's a pretty packed house.
You probably can't think of a worse place to be than Dubuque, Iowa, but that's only because you forgot Canada was a place. Top Quebec prospect Michael Matheson is weighing his options between playing in the USHL next year, or heading to play for a Hockey East school a year early.
Speaking of top '94 prospects heading to Hockey East a year early, '94 Zemgus Girgensons, who is tearing up the USHL in his rookie year and scheduled to head to Vermont next season, is currently playing for Latvia in the World Juniors Division 1 tournament. The best place to follow the D1 tournament is from SBN's Puck Worlds site. St. Cloud recruit Markus Lauridsen is also playing for the Danish team. Both Latvia and Denmark seem to have a pretty good shot at making the big tournament next year in Canada.
