Best of the West #37: Lee Baldwin, Alaska-Anchorage

Lee Baldwin, Defenseman, 6'3" 210 lbs., Victoria(BCHL)

Role he'll likely play: Anchorage only lost one defenseman off of last year's team with the graduation of Mat Robinson, but the Seawolves finished tied for the worst defense in the WCHA last year, so Baldwin should have no trouble finding ice time. Not only does he bring size, he's also shown some offensive abilities and could contribute along with Trevor Hunt on the powerplay.

Why he is ranked here: After two decent seasons in Burnaby, Baldwin moved to Victoria, where he had a breakout year, scoring 54 points in 56 games, making him the league's highest scoring defenseman.

Why he'll be great: Baldwin could be a diamond in the rough with his combination of size, physicality and offensive abilties. He's got the ability to do a lot of different things for the Seawolves.

Why he might not: It's a bit of a red flag when a player makes a huge jump in production in his overage year of juniors. He may not have the same success playing against competition his own age or older.
