Kolarik Out with Injury

Michigan's Chad Kolarik played one of the better games of his collegiate career last Friday night when he scored all four of Michigan's goals in their 4-2 win over Lake Superior. Some suggested that Kolarik may have even put himself into consideration for the Hobey Baker Award after his performance.

Any Hobey talk was short-lived however, as the following night, while trying to block a shot, Kolarik suffered a groin injury that forced him to leave the game. Early reports are that he will miss a few weeks due to the injury, though the severity isn't known yet.

The Wolverines finish out their regular season with a tough series against Michigan State, and a home-and-home series against the suddenly dangerous Ferris State. The good news for Michigan is that Miami's slip-up against Ferris State gives Michigan a little breathing room for the CCHA title. The Wolverines only need four points in those final four games to clinch a CCHA title.

Once the regular season ends, the Wolverines are guaranteed a bye during the first round of the CCHA playoffs, and shouldn't face too tough of a test in the quarterfinal round of the CCHA playoffs, though a few teams lurking at the bottom of the standings have given the Wolverines trouble this year. All told, Kolarik should have almost a full month to recover, before the Wolverines will really need his services.

UPDATE: Out 4-5-ish weeks with a hamstring injury.
