Three Recruits Commit to WCHA

Minnesota picked up a huge commitment this weekend from NTDP defenseman Sam Lofquist for 2008. Lofquist played at Shattuck-St. Mary's before getting an offer from the NTDP this summer.

St. Cloud picked up a commitment from Little Falls HS forward Jared Festler. Kevin Allenspach writes about the commitment. Little Falls is close enough to St. Cloud to be considered local, and Festler grew up a St. Cloud fan, so his commitment isn't surprising. I'm not quite sure what to make of this. Festler has put up a ton of points in the Elite League and put up a ton of points at the Select 17 Festival, but I've been pretty unimpressed with him in the times I've seen him. One interesting caveat for the Huskies is that Festler can work on Little Falls teammate and 2009 recruit Ben Hanowski, who is reportedly a big Minnesota fan.

Finally, if you read the comments, you probably already saw this, but Brett Hextall, son of Ron Hextall, committed to North Dakota. Brett is off to a nice start with Penticton in the BCHL this year.
