Freshmen have accounted for five of the nine points registered by Northeastern through two periods.

BOSTON -- Northeastern has extended its lead to 4-0 over Harvard after two periods in the first semifinal of the 62nd annual Beanpot Tournament at the TD Garden. The Huskies scored two nifty goals in the second frame to take an even more commanding lead over the Crimson.

Northeastern is 11-1-2 when leading after two periods this season. Harvard is 0-9-1 this season when trailing after 40 minutes of play.

Snydeman tips one in: Junior transfer Torin Snydeman made the most of his Beanpot debut when he crashed the net and tipped in a centering feed from freshman Mike Szmatula on a transition play. It was the sixth goal of the season for the Groton, Mass. native who played his first two seasons a Sacred Heart in the Atlantic Hockey Association.

Szmatula passing wizardry: Szmatula caught a Colton Saucerman cross-ice pass and then fed Braden Pimm who was able to easily slide the puck into an open net. The two assists so far in the game give the former Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL) standout 30 points on the season, tied for second most in NCAA among rookies with St. Lawrence's Matt Carey. The Commerce Township, Mich. native is tied for the rookie lead in assists with AIC's David Norris.

Parade to penalty box continues: After the two teams combined for 31 penalty minutes in the first period, the penalty box attendants stayed busy in the middle frame. The two teams took 18 minutes worth of penalties in the second period. Northeastern is one-for-seven on the man advantage while the Crimson have failed to convert in four tries.
