CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The sixth-ranked Boston College Eagles return to the ice for the back half of their home-opening weekend on Saturday night, hosting UMass in their second Hockey East contest of the season.
BC is coming off its second consecutive non-league game, sending Colorado College out to the tune of a 6-2 final score on Friday night at Kelley Rink.
Hingham, Mass. native senior Cam Spiro scored twice, finding the back of the net for the first time since the end of his sophomore season. In addition, freshman Noah Hanifin scored the first goal of his collegiate career while sophomore Ryan Fitzgerald netted his third goal in as many games to open the season.
Friday night was a good night for the Minutemen as they won at Northeastern's Matthews Arena for a third straight season, this time by a 3-2 score. Senior Emerson Auvenshine scored the winning goal at 8:51, while freshman Henry Dill was rewarded with his second win of the year in a 42-save effort.
UMass has won just 13 of the 72 all-time meetings with the Eagles, but seven of those have come in Chestnut Hill. The Minutemen earned a 2-2 tie in their visit to BC last Nov. 15.
