Hockey East Stat of the Week

It's no secret that BC and UNH are really good. But how good might surprise you.

128:50

That's not a ratio. That's the amount of game time in minutes and seconds that Boston College has led their opposition by two goals or more. They've done so in five games, including on two separate occasions in victories over Lowell and Maine, and have led by two goals or more for 17:14 more than they've trailed during the season (and for 72:11 more than they've trailed in their eight wins).

In those wins, BC has trailed for 56:39, or just over seven minutes per game, on average. They've led by two or more goals for about 16:08 per game, well over twice as much. It's not just that the Eagles are winning, it's that they're winning easy, and if you take their first two games (a 3-1 loss at Northeastern and 5-4 OT victory at UMass in which they never led) out of the picture, they've only trailed for 7:31 of total game time - all of which came in their 3-2 win against UMass.

Honorable Mention: 1.38

in their eight games played, UNH has allowed just 11 goals, or an average goals against of 1.38, good for first overall nationally. Goaltender Casey DeSmith has been stellar, ranking second nationally in save percentage (.952) and tied for first overall in shutouts, with three (in his last four games).
