University of Buffalo alum Jerry Forton is coming home. The veteran college hockey assistant coach has been added to Ron Rolston's staff as an assistant for the Buffalo Sabres, according to multiple media reports.
Forton spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach on Ted Donato's staff at Harvard. He had previously spent time as an assistant coach at UMass-Lowell and Niagara.
Sabres head coach Ron Rolston was a longtime Harvard assistant, as well. Forton, who has his law degree, actually played soccer and not hockey at the University of Buffalo.
Ted Donato will have to replace an assistant coach late in the summer, which will be a difficult task with the season less than two months away. There will be plenty of interested candidates for an assistant coaching gig in the ECAC. Former Boston University Terriers forward Albie O'Connell is the other assistant for the Crimson.
