A few notes:

-The tradition of Michigan meeting Ohio State kicking off the Big Ten season on the same weekend as their football game lasted only one year. Conference play starts the weekend before Thanksgiving this year with Michigan State at Ohio State, and Penn State at Michigan

-Michigan and Minnesota will meet on the weekend of January 8th-10th. That's significant because both teams should be sending a number of players to the World Juniors, which concludes on January 5th. At least this year's tournament is being held four hours away from Ann Arbor in Toronto, rather than overseas in Europe.

-After playing both series fairly early in the schedule, Minnesota and Wisconsin will meet later in the season next year. They will play each other four times within a span of three weeks in late January, with Minnesota having the North Star Cup sandwiched in between the two series.

-The last weekend of the season will feature match-ups of Michigan State/Michigan, Penn State/Minnesota, and Wisconsin/Ohio State, where absolutely nothing will be on the line, because they'll be playing in the same empty arena the following weekend anyway.
