Cam Askew, previously a Boston University recruit, was drafted 11th overall in the first round of the QMJHL Draft by Drummondville.

There were a handful of American born college prospects drafted in the 2013 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Draft held Saturday in Chicoutimi, Quebec.

The biggest name was Cam Askew who was selected 11th overall by the Drummondville Voltiguers. The South Boston native spent the past season playing prep hockey for Cushing Academy.

Askew was drafted first overall by the Indiana Ice in last month's USHL Draft, but suddenly decided not to attend their camp, and instead head to Quebec. One of the top 1997-born players in the United States, he had previously committed to Northeastern before switching his pledge to Boston University. According to multiple sources, it is likely Askew will sign with Drummondville and pass up the college game.

Boston College recruit Noah Hanifin, a St. Sebastian's blue liner, was the second American chosen in the draft. The Quebec Remparts drafted him in the second round. Hanafin's family advisor is legendary Boston Bruins defenseman Bobby Orr who runs a sports agency with his son Darren.

Quebec native and Salisbury Prep goaltender Callum Booth was selected by the Remparts in the third round. In recent years, Salisbury has been a hotbed for Quebec players. The three Biega brothers, Alex, Michael and Danny, all went to Salisbury before matriculating to Harvard.

St. John drafted Boston University recruit Jack Eichel, who has recently reaffirmed his commitment to play college hockey. The Sea Dogs took a flyer on the Chelmsford, Mass. native who plays for the US National Development Program. Halifax, which previously drafted Eichel, forfeited the rights to him last week.
