Assistant Coach Len Quesnelle leaves UMass

After nine seasons as an assistant coach at UMass-Amherst, Len Quesnelle has left the program. The former player, assistant and head coach at Princeton was still under contract when John Micheletto was hired as the UMass head coach last summer.

Len Quesnelle, an assistant coach in the UMass-Amherst hockey program for the past nine seasons, is no longer with the program.

Quesnelle, originally from Bramalea, Ontario, played four years at Princeton before rejoining the Princeton program as an assistant coach for eleven seasons under Jim Higgins and Don "Toot" Cahoon. When Cahoon took the job at UMass-Amherst, Quesnelle took over the head job for the Tigers, but was let go following the 2003-2004 season. Quesnelle then followed Cahoon to Amherst, becoming an assistant with the UMass program.

Head Coach Cahoon was fired following last season. While Quesnelle was allowed to interview for the job, most assumed he would be passed over. Since he was still under contract, the new UMass-Amherst coach kept him on for this season. It was generally believed that Quesnelle would only be retained for this season. First year head coach John Micheletto will now be able to make a hire so both assistants will be his selections. He had brought Joey Gasparini with him from Vermont as one of his assistants.
