We're underway at Madison Square Garden for what's being called 'The Frozen Apple' between the Michigan Wolverines and Cornell Big Red. Follow this post for any and all first period updates.
- Michigan Starting Lineup: Defense: Jacob Trouba, Mac Bennett; Forwards: Phil DiGiuseppe, Cristoval Davies, A.J. Treais; Goaltender: Steve Racine
- Cornell Starting Lineup: Defense: Joakim Ryan, Braden Birch; Forwards: Joel Lowry, John Knisley, Greg Miller; Goaltender: Andy Iles
It is a loud crowd here at Madison Square Garden. They are a couple thousand short of a sellout, but the crowd is well represented by both teams and bringing the famous 'Garden Roar' to MSG.
- Michigan took the first penalty of the game, as Kevin Clare went off for interference. Cornell's powerplay was fairly harmless, getting only a couple of shots. The MSG scoreboard has failed to count shots as of yet, but Reece Wilcox took a top circle wrister that was stopped by Steve Racine. Michigan had good traffic in front, but couldn't create a solid rebound chance.
- Cornell has had the better start, but both teams have been in a feeling out process. The Wolverines are shotless through the first eight minutes.
- GOAL, 1-0 Cornell: Joel Lowry (LA draft pick, 2011, 5th Round) scores on Cornell's third power play of the game. He had a mini 2-on-1 at the bottom of the left circle, looked off goalkeeper Steve Racine, and put it five-hole to make it 1-0 Big Red. Cornell has had most of the attack time in the first period, out-shooting Michigan 6-2 through 18 minutes. They are 1-for-3 on the power play, while Michigan is 0-for-1. They've also had more of the physical play.
- Defenseman Jacob Trouba (WPG draft pick) gets sent off late in the first period on a boarding call. It looked questionable to the naked eye, but was clearly a hit from behind on the TV replay. Trouba gets sent off with less than two minutes to go in the first and Cornell is on their fourth power play.
- END FIRST PERIOD, 1-0 Cornell: The Big Red were unable to cash in on the first 1:41 of their fourth power play, and will have 19 seconds of carry over time in the second.
